Socioeconomic Drivers of Fish Consumption in Qatar

The demand and supply gap in local fish production provides opportunities for investment processing that are non-artisanal. Accordingly, this paper uses the Qatar Semi-Annual Survey, a nationally representative repeated cross-sectional dataset, to analyze consumers’ willingness consume processed consumption intensity. Given ordinal nature of main outcome variable, namely intensity, we use ordered probit model with sample selection. first part our analytical strategy helps us examine determinants consumption, while second establishes factors associated findings suggest majority respondents have low interest consuming fish. Nonetheless, find demographic socioeconomic influence intensity Qatar. Specifically, sometimes or very often is positively age, living household no children, labor force participation. In comparison, Qatari households, tertiary education, middle-income likely reduce often. Our important implications results help targeting different consumer segments given better understanding fishery product among consumers insights drawn from study fundamental precondition advancing industry Qatar, an potential generate by-products benefits, such as energy animal feed, prolonging shelf life convenience consumers. Moreover, other countries region benefit study.
